My
beautiful collection of Talavera comes from the picturesque town of Puebla.
This little town nestles up against the enormous active volcano,
Popocateptl. From beneath the frequent eruptions, this amazing pottery is
sculpted and painted by talented artists throughout the region. This
pottery, known as Talavera, originated in Spain. During the time of the
Spanish conquest of Mexico, the tradition of this pottery was brought
across to the new land. The main difference between Spanish Talavera and
authentic Mexican Talavera is the colors. Mexican Talavera is known for
the bright blues as seen in each of our pieces.
The pottery is made from terra-cotta. Once formed and hardened, the
terra-cotta is dipped into a lead-free enamel and baked until glossy. Once
cooled, each piece is hand-painted with a lead-free metal-based paint and
a design created by the artist.
True authentic Talavera carries the hand-painted signature of the artist
stating the name and place of the organization of Talavera they represent.
All of our pieces are guaranteed this signature of authenticity.
Imagine these colorful pieces of art in your kitchen, dining room or just
about any other room in your home.
